Emergency Repairs Close Lanes on I-287 Southbound in Morris County

NJDOT crews respond to buckled concrete caused by bridge joint expansion; delays expected

Emergency lane closures are in effect on I-287 southbound in Morris County as New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) crews address roadway damage in Riverdale and Montville. The closures are the result of concrete buckling due to the expansion of bridge joints.

In Riverdale, the right lane at milepost 52.6, just south of Route 23, is closed. The left and center lanes remain open to traffic.

In Montville, the damage is more extensive. The left and center lanes at milepost 49.3, just past the Brook Valley Road Bridge, are closed. As of 4:30 p.m. on June 24, NJDOT reopened the right lane and shoulder, with the shoulder now serving as a travel lane. All lanes at this location were briefly closed around 3 p.m. Tuesday before temporary repairs restored partial traffic flow.

Crews are continuing to assess and repair the roadway, and the duration of the closures remains uncertain. Motorists should expect delays, proceed with caution, and be aware of changing traffic patterns.
