Overnight Closure of I-80 Exit 34B and Route 15 Lanes Scheduled for Friday in Wharton

Bridge deck repairs will prompt a full detour of Exit 34B and partial closure of Route 15 northbound overnight July 18–19.

Motorists traveling through Wharton in Morris County on Friday night should expect detours and delays as the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) conducts routine bridge repairs on I-80 and Route 15.

Beginning at 11:00 p.m. on Friday, July 18, I-80 westbound Exit 34B (Jefferson/Sparta) will be closed and detoured for concrete bridge deck repairs. The closure will remain in effect until 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 19.

Simultaneously, Route 15 northbound's right and center lanes will be closed on the bridge over Green Pond Brook at Milepost 2.3, where traffic from Exit 34B typically merges onto Route 15. Only the left lane will remain open during this period.

The overnight work is part of a $16.4 million state-funded maintenance project targeting bridge and structural repairs across eight counties, including Morris.

Detour Details for I-80 Westbound Exit 34B:

Drivers intending to access Route 15 North from I-80 westbound will be directed to:

  • Take Exit 34A for Route 15 South/Wharton

The NJDOT advises motorists to anticipate potential delays and to consult 511nj.org for real-time traffic information and updates related to the ongoing maintenance schedule. All work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement conditions.
