Schooleys Mountain Road to Close Weekdays for Gas Main Work Starting July 21

Elizabethtown Gas project in Washington Township to run through mid-September with full weekday closures and detours in place.

WASHINGTON TWP. — A full closure of Schooleys Mountain Road (County Route 517) between Newburgh Road and Route 57 is set to begin Monday, July 21, to allow for the installation of a new gas main. The project is scheduled to take place Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and is expected to continue through mid-September, weather permitting.

The work is being conducted by Skoda Contracting Company under the direction of Elizabethtown Gas, and will involve excavating the roadway to install new gas lines to improve utility infrastructure in the area.

Detour Information:

Northbound Traffic on Schooleys Mountain Road:

  • Turn left onto Newburgh Road

  • Turn right onto Route 57

  • Continue to the intersection with Schooleys Mountain Road to complete the detour

Southbound Traffic on Mountain Avenue/Route 182/Schooleys Mountain Road:

  • Turn right onto Route 57

  • Turn left onto Newburgh Road

  • Continue to the intersection with Schooleys Mountain Road to complete the detour

Motorists should anticipate delays and plan alternate routes where possible. Emergency vehicles and local access will be coordinated as needed.
