Speedwell Avenue Sidewalk Pressure Washing Scheduled for July 28–29

Overnight cleaning work will limit sidewalk access and parking but keep the road open during operations.

Morristown officials have announced that the second phase of sidewalk and curb pressure washing on Speedwell Avenue will take place overnight on Monday, July 28, and Tuesday, July 29, 2025, weather permitting. The work, contracted to Under Pressure House Washing LLC, will occur from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each night.

The cleaning project will focus on sections of Speedwell Avenue between Flagler Street and Vail Place. Crews will stage equipment from the public parking lot behind the firehouse and progress in both directions from the center of the block, continuing toward Orchard Street and Logan Street before looping back. The route and schedule may be adjusted to maintain property access and reduce disruption.

During the two-night operation, pedestrian access along sidewalks will be limited, though entry to properties will remain open whenever safe passage is feasible. On-street parking within the work zone will be prohibited during overnight hours, with “No Parking” signs posted in advance. Parking will resume as normal during the daytime. The roadway itself will remain open to traffic.

Equipment and hoses connected to South Monmouth County Municipal Utilities Authority (SMCMUA) fire hydrants will be used during the operation. As with routine hydrant flushing, residents may temporarily experience reduced water pressure or discolored water due to sediment being stirred in the system. The discoloration is harmless, and water quality will not be affected.

Residents are advised to avoid running taps, dishwashers, or washing machines overnight while the work is underway. If water appears discolored, running cold water for several minutes until it clears is recommended. Laundry should only be done once water clarity is restored, as iron or manganese sediment may cause staining.

Officials note that any lingering discoloration is temporary, and homeowners experiencing reduced water pressure should check faucet aerators for trapped sediment.

The project is part of ongoing sidewalk maintenance efforts to improve pedestrian areas along Speedwell Avenue. All plans remain subject to change based on site conditions and coordination needs.
