Rutherford Building Maintenance Firm Issued Stop-Work Order Over Unpaid Wages

Adamas Building Services ordered to halt operations after failing to comply with wage collection ruling from NJDOL

RUTHERFORD, NJ — The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development (NJDOL) has issued a stop-work order to Adamas Building Services L.L.C., a building maintenance company located in Rutherford, for failing to pay a wage award granted through the state's Wage Collection process.

The order was issued on August 12, 2025, following an investigation by NJDOL’s Division of Wage and Hour Compliance. The company, headquartered at 75 Orient Way, Suite 303, was found to owe one worker a total of $1,190 in unpaid wages. In addition to this amount, the employer is also liable for $1,190 in liquidated damages, a $428.40 administrative fee, and a $25 summons cost.

This enforcement action is part of NJDOL's ongoing effort to ensure compliance with labor laws and to protect workers from exploitative practices. Stop-work orders may be imposed when employers fail to meet their obligations after a formal wage award has been issued. The order prohibits further work at the affected site until the total amount owed is paid and all related matters are resolved.

Workers impacted by a stop-work order must continue to receive compensation during the period of enforcement, up to a maximum of 10 days. The order can be lifted once full payment has been made and compliance verified by the department.

Since the expansion of NJDOL’s stop-work authority in July 2019, the department has issued 197 such orders across New Jersey.
