Montville Township has announced plans to acquire a 28-acre parcel along River Road, a move that will significantly expand its inventory of open space and recreational land. The acquisition, encompassing the properties at 96 and 97 River Road—formerly home to the Condurso’s Garden Center—is expected to close on or before October 31, 2025.

The purchase marks a strategic expansion of the township’s public land holdings and is intended to preserve green space while enhancing recreational opportunities for residents. Township officials cited the proximity of the parcel to two other large municipally owned tracts as a key factor in the decision to move forward with the acquisition.

According to the township’s announcement, the site carries local historical significance as the location of a nearly century-old, family-owned business that has long been a part of the Montville community. Officials emphasized the importance of protecting the character and environmental value of the area, noting that the acquisition aligns with broader goals of conservation and public access.

Once finalized, the acquisition will contribute to Montville's ongoing efforts to balance growth with preservation and provide future generations with continued access to natural and recreational resources.
