Florham Park Police Interrupt Burglary in Progress, Capture Suspect with Help from Area Agencies

Sergeant’s surveillance leads to dramatic rooftop arrest; multi-agency response recovers stolen property as investigation continues

FLORHAM PARK, NJ — A routine surveillance effort turned into a major overnight operation Sunday (October 26, 2025) when Florham Park Police interrupted an active commercial burglary on Hanover Road and arrested one of two suspects with the assistance of more than a dozen surrounding law enforcement agencies.

The incident began earlier in the day on Sunday, October 26, when day-shift officers took a report from a local commercial property regarding a break-in, property damage, and the theft of a large quantity of materials by unknown individuals. Later that evening, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Sergeant Jared Orgel returned to the property in an unmarked vehicle to conduct a stakeout — and his timing proved pivotal.

As Orgel pulled onto the premises, he observed two suspects in the act of burglarizing the business, operating a commercial van to facilitate the theft. When the suspects noticed his vehicle, they immediately fled in different directions, with one reentering the building on foot.

Coordinated Multi-Agency Response

In response to the unfolding incident, a wide array of law enforcement agencies rapidly arrived on scene to assist with perimeter security and an intensive search of the property, described by police as "extremely large, inside and out."

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) responded with their K-9, Patrol, Drone Operations, and Criminal Investigative units, while East Hanover Police Department provided additional officers and drone surveillance capabilities.

During an interior search of the building, officers from Madison Police and the MCSO heard noises coming from the roof. The drone team from East Hanover PD successfully located one of the suspects hiding on the roof, enabling officers to safely apprehend the individual without injury.

The second suspect fled into a wooded area and remains at large. Investigators have recovered the commercial van used in the burglary as well as a significant portion of the stolen or attempted stolen materials. The property crime scene is being processed with assistance from the MCSO Criminal Investigative Section.

Ongoing Investigation

Florham Park’s Detective Bureau continues to investigate the incident. The suspect in custody has not been publicly identified, and additional details regarding charges and the second suspect’s identity remain under investigation.
