Free Tree Seedlings Available in Morristown

Free tree seedlings will be available to residents as part of the New Jersey Forest Service’s Tree Recovery Campaign. 

Municipalities will be giving away 5 Free Bare Root Tree Seedlings to all residents of New Jersey

Locally, residents can pick up tree seedlings from the following dates and locations:

  • April 22 9am to 11am Rotary upper pavilion, Gardner Field, 2 Savage Road Denville
  • April 22 8am to 3pm Public Works, 37 Ironia Road to April 28, Mendham Borough
  • April 22 9am to 4pm Scherer Pavilion at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum 353 East Hanover Avenue, Morristown located across from the county library
  • April 22 10am to 2pm Roxbury Recreation (Horseshoe Lake) 73 Eyland Avenue, Succasunna
  • April 23 10am Rock Sprig Park Gazebo (parking by the senior center), 35 East Springtown Road, Long Valley
  • April 23 9am to Noon Birchwood Lake Parking lot, 49 West Shore Road, Mountain Lakes
  • April 23 10am Park Lake, Mt Hope Pond, Egbert Lake clean up day, Rockaway
  • April 23 8:30am to 1pm Township Municipal Building, Meyersville Road, Chatham Township May 1 9am to Noon Chester Library Parking lot, 250 West Main Street, Chester
  • April 24 9am to Noon Frelinghuysen Middle School Front Entrance Arcade 10 Jane Way, Morristown
  • April 29 Noon Parks & Forestry Department 1 Knoll Drive, Lake Hiawatha, Parsippany

  • May 1 9am Hartley Dodge Memorial, 50 Kings Road, Madison

Seedlings are available on a first come, first served basis. 

Residents will be provided with a care guide that addresses seedling storage, general care, and identifying an appropriate planting location. 

The Morristown Shade Tree Commission reminds residents to consider the size of a mature tree when choosing the planting location. 

The seedlings should be planted within two days after pick-up in order to prevent the roots from drying out.
