'Stomp Out the Stigma' Walk Promotes Mental Health Awareness

May 7, 1:00 pm

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, the Mendhams Stigma Free Task Force is hosting the second annual “Stomp Out the Stigma Walk” on Sunday, May 7, to raise awareness about mental health and substance use disorders.

The Walk will fund scholarships to West Morris Mendham High School seniors whose planned college major will be in the fields of mental health and/or substance use disorders. Additional Walk funds will provide grants for local programs to support our community’s mental health.

Walk check-in begins at 1:00pm in the parking lot of Grace Lutheran Church (65 E. Main St.). The brief program and intention setting starts at 1:30pm, and the Walk at 1:45pm. The route goes down Main Street, to Orchard and around Borough Park. It loops up Mountain Avenue to end at Hilltop House, where walkers will enjoy a Resource Fair, kids’ activities, music, and more!

Register to Walk or sign up as a Sponsor on Community Pass.

Form a Walk team by sending an e-mail to Recreation Director David Guida (dguida@mendhamtownship.org)

Participate in the Resource Fair as an exhibitor by sending an e-mail to Task Force Chair Amalia Duarte (aduarte@mendhamtownship.org).

The Mendhams Stigma Free Task Force is a volunteer group of residents across Mendham Township and Mendham Borough, including mental health professionals. The Task Force partners with school officials, the police, clergy, and outside professional and nonprofit organizations. The goal is to foster a judgment-free environment around mental health issues and substance abuse and to create inclusion for people with special needs, disabilities and any other “difference” that can make them feel marginalized, sidelined, and not accepted.
