Morris Plains Memorial Day Service and 37th Annual Parade on Saturday, May 27th.

In honor of Memorial Day, the Borough of Morris Plains, NJ, will host its annual commemoration service and parade on Saturday, May 27th. The community-wide event will pay tribute to the brave servicemen and servicewomen who have defended the nation's freedom.

Starting at 9:00 AM, a special service will be held at Roberts Garden, located at the corner of Glenbrook Road and Mountain Way. Members of the Morris Plains VFW Watnong Post #3401 and Denville American Legion Post 390 will conduct the service, followed by remarks from special guest speaker, Lt. Colonel Alexander D. Burgos from Picatinny Arsenal.

Following the service, at 9:30 AM, the 37th Annual Memorial Day Parade will kick off near the intersection of Glenbrook Road and Mountain Way. The procession will journey south on Mountain Way, east on Rosedale Ave, then north along Speedwell Avenue. Participants will pass the reviewing stand at the corner of Franklin Place, opposite the railroad station, and continue north up Littleton Road to Route 53 north, culminating at the VFW Watnong Post #3401.

This year, the community honors Lt. Michael E. Rolph as the Grand Marshal. Celebrated for his 25 years of unwavering service to the Borough, Rolph has been a critical member of the Morris Plains Police Department. His involvement extends beyond his professional duties, as he is a dedicated member of the Parade Committee and the 9/11 Memorial Committee. Lt. Rolph is also a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He will be accompanied by his wife, Cara, and daughter, Amber, in the Central Park Carriage during the parade.

The largest parade in Morris County, this event will feature an impressive 100 units representing local and county organizations. Sixteen bands will enliven the march, including the Orange High School Marching Tornadoes Band, the Salaam Shrine Temple Oriental Band, the Rory O’Moore Pipe Band, the Morris County Police Pipes and Drums, the Denville String Band, and, at the parade's end, the Morristown High School Marching Colonials.

Notable features of the parade include the Future Marines of RSS Northwest, the Mega Robot, and a musical performance of patriotic tunes by The Golden Gup and Lulu. Korean War Veteran, Dudley Werner, and beloved characters Mickey and Minnie Mouse will also be making appearances.

For more details on Parade day activities, the community is encouraged to contact the Parade Chairman, Steve Welsh at 973-644-2746. This commemorative event will provide a day of respect, honor, and community camaraderie in remembering those who have bravely served the nation.
