Four New Jersey Cities Complete Film Ready New Jersey Program and Join the State's Booming Film Industry as Designated Filming Destinations.

The film industry in New Jersey is experiencing a major revival, with 175 feature films and TV shows being shot in the state, generating close to $1.5 billion in spending.

In light of this, the New Jersey Motion Picture and Television Commission (NJMPTVC) and the Somerset County Film Commission have joined forces to launch the Film Ready New Jersey program, aimed at preparing municipalities for an influx of film and TV production.

Four New Jersey cities, Franklin, Hillsborough, South Bound Brook, and Watchung, have successfully completed the multi-step training and certification process, earning the designation of "film-ready" communities. This designation provides a platform for these cities to promote themselves as filming destinations and connect with film and TV professionals seeking local expertise and support.

The Film Ready New Jersey program is a 5-step certification and marketing program that educates municipalities on the basics of motion picture and television production, allowing cities and towns to effectively accommodate on-location filming and market themselves as filming destinations. The program sets basic standards for attracting filmmaking and positions New Jersey as a top production destination.

"The Greatest Beer Run Ever" filmed portions in Paterson, North Bergen, and Jersey City.

Starting in April, municipal governments will be invited to participate in a one-day workshop, the first step towards certification. Representatives will receive training and guidance from industry professionals, local mayors, and NJMPTVC Commissioners and staff, and learn about the economic impact of hosting on-location filming, ordinances and permitting, opportunities for small businesses, and the expanding infrastructure. The workshop will also feature Film Ready Police + Fire, designed to educate and train police and fire chiefs in public safety and motion picture and entertainment safety.

The Trial of the Chicago 7. Filming in Morris County, New Jersey, took place in Hennessy Hall on Fairleigh Dickinson University's Florham Park campus and Hyland Hall (located within Henderson Hall) and at Santa Maria at College of Saint Elizabeth.

By becoming a certified Film Ready Community, cities and towns will have access to a toolkit that will help them attract and welcome productions to their community. The workshops will be offered on a regional basis, by invitation, and interested municipalities can learn more about the Film Ready program and upcoming workshops on the commission’s website in March, or sign up here for more information.

With the film industry in New Jersey booming, now is the time for cities and towns to get ready to take center stage. Get ready to roll out the red carpet, as New Jersey becomes the next big filming destination!
