Landing Man Found Guilty on All Charges for Sexual Contact with Minor in Mount Olive

Landing man convicted of Sexual Contact and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in Mount Olive.

A three-day trial came to a close yesterday, as a jury found Vinicio Orellana, a 45-year-old resident of Landing, New Jersey, guilty on all charges related to sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child. The verdict was delivered by a jury at Morris County Superior Court on February 16, 2023, following an incident that occurred on September 27, 2020, in Flanders, New Jersey.

Orellana was convicted of three counts of fourth-degree Criminal Sexual Contact and one count of third-degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child. He was found guilty of touching a 16-year-old female victim on her intimate parts. The incident was immediately reported to the Mount Olive Police Department on the same day.

The successful conviction resulted from the collaborative efforts of several law enforcement agencies, including the Mount Olive Township Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Sex Crimes Child Endangerment Unit. 

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll acknowledged the professionalism and dedication of the Trial Team: Assistant Prosecutor Jacqueline Marotta, Assistant Prosecutor Alexandra Pecora, MCPO Detective Jenna Powers, and MCPO Detective Lamar Hagans, along with the lead investigators of the Mount Olive Police Department, Detective Constantinos Pagonis and Det. Lt. Luis Sanchez, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, Detective Juan Munoz, and Detective Shawn Casey. MCPO Victim Witness Supervisor Amanda Holloway, and all those who contributed to the investigation and prosecution of this case, were also commended.

The sentencing for Orellana is scheduled for March 24, 2023, before Judge Ralph E. Amirata, J.S.C.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office has emphasized the importance of swift action and the support of all law enforcement agencies involved in pursuing justice. The verdict is a testament to the commitment of the community to protect and ensure the safety of its youth
