Several Morris County Schools Lockdown; No Suspect Found Following Reported Threat
Morris County, NJ - Saint Elizabeth University was placed under lockdown for five hours on Tuesday, April 4, after a reported threat of violence was made on campus. However, no suspects were found following a thorough investigation led by local law enforcement.
At approximately 10:30 a.m., a bystander walking near Convent Station and the university campus reported encountering a man who allegedly made a violent threat and may have been armed. The incident was immediately reported to the authorities, prompting Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, Morris County Sheriff James Gannon, Morris Township Police Chief Robert Shearer, Madison Police Chief John Miscia, Florham Park Police Chief Joseph Orlando, and Saint Elizabeth University President Gary Crosby to announce an investigation into the matter.
As a precautionary measure, the university was placed into lockdown while law enforcement secured the scene. The initial response from Morris Township Patrol Units was soon bolstered by officers from the Prosecutor's Office, Sheriff's Office, and additional mutual aid from surrounding municipal police departments.
A building-by-building search was conducted, but investigative efforts did not yield a suspect fitting the description provided. Contrary to some social media reports, there was no confirmation of the presence of an individual possessing a firearm on campus. The lockdown was lifted at 3:30 p.m. once the campus was cleared by law enforcement.
