Morristown's American Legion Post 59 Celebrates the Dedication and Service of Local Veteran Support Providers.

Morristown, NJ - In a heartfelt gesture of gratitude, the American Legion Post 59 in Morristown hosted an appreciation lunch this week to recognize the Morris County Veteran Service Office (VSO), the staff at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Clinic at Morris View, and Morris County officials for their unwavering support and assistance to former service members.

Post 59 Vice Commander Dominick Sabol expressed his thanks, saying, "This is a big thank you -- to you from all of us for all of the things you do for us."

He was joined by Commander Norus Achmetov and Adjutant Jim Koons in welcoming the veteran services professionals at the VA Clinic in Morris Township.

Among those in attendance were Morris County Commissioner Director John Krickus (USMC), Morris County Human Services Director Kasey Errico, and Christine Hellyer, Director of Morris County's Office of Aging, Disabilities & Community Programming.

Commissioner Director Krickus remarked on the gathering, "As if our veterans haven't done enough by serving their country, they literally served us lunch today. It was a nice way for everyone to come together and to not only feel rewarded for the work they do but see how appreciated their work is by those receiving their public service."

The attendees enjoyed a delicious spread of sandwiches, fruit, and vegetable platters while engaging in conversations and building connections.

The Morris County VSO plays a crucial role in providing honorably discharged Morris County veterans and their families with VA benefits and entitlements, offering information and referrals for various services, including education, veterans insurance, VA home loans, VA Healthcare, and more.

In addition to local family and health counseling, the Morris County VSO is instrumental in reaching out to homeless veterans and connecting them with community services.

Commissioner Director Krickus noted that U.S. Reps. Mikie Sherrill and Tom Kean are currently working together to identify a location for a new Vet Center in Morris County to expand access to mental health counseling for veterans - Morristown is considered an ideal location for such a center.

The VA Clinic in Morris County is an outpatient clinic offering primary care and specialty health services, including laboratory services, mental health care, and nutrition services, among others. It is located next to the Morris County VSO at the rear of the Morris View facility at 540 West Hanover Avenue, Morris Township.
