Route 46 daytime lane and shoulder closures are required in both directions this week in Morris County; At least one lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions.

Morris County, NJ - Route 46 will experience daytime lane and shoulder closures in both directions this week, impacting traffic between Mount Olive and Mine Hill. The closures are part of a $10.5 million state-funded maintenance project aimed at improving the road's infrastructure.

Starting today, Monday, April 24, and continuing daily through Friday, April 28, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the right lane and shoulder will be closed on Route 46 eastbound and westbound between International Drive in Mount Olive and Old Travel Way in Roxbury. The closures are necessary for upgrading curbs and drainage inlets in the area.

Once work is completed in the first work zone, closures will move to the second work zone between Ballantine Street in Roxbury and Scrub Oaks Road in Mine Hill. Throughout the construction period, at least one lane of traffic will be maintained in both directions on Route 46. (Plan for delays)

Motorists are advised to slow down, use caution, and expect delays. Those who can, consider planning an alternate route.

The maintenance project includes milling and paving, improvements to drainage systems and stormwater basins, installation of new sidewalks, and ADA-compliant curb ramps, as well as upgrading existing curbs. The project is expected to be completed in fall 2023.

The exact timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. For real-time travel information, motorists are encouraged to visit NJDOT's traffic information website at www.511nj.org.
