Local sporting legend and  Morristown-Beard School alum Bridget Monaghan (MBS '19) has secured her spot in basketball history. Monaghan's jersey now graces the Ring of Honor at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in recognition of her standout performance during her senior season at the University of Scranton. The exhibition will be on display until May 2024 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

“The Ring of Honor is an exhibit at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame where we honor the nation’s top players at every level,” said Kelly Mathis, Director of Development for the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. “To have your jersey on display at the Hall of Fame is a huge privilege, and we are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of these young women.”

The Ring of Honor features jerseys of the top high school and college players from previous seasons. The display has included some of the best players in the world like Candace Parker, Sue Bird, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart, and Aja Wilson.

This marks the second consecutive year that the Lady Royals will have displayed a player's jersey in the Ring of Honor,  following Abby Anderson in 2021-22.

Monaghan had a stellar 2022-23 campaign, starting all 29 games for the University of Scranton's Lady Royals. She averaged an impressive 15.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while maintaining a 38.1 percent shooting record from the floor.

As a three-time captain, Monaghan secured her place among the Landmark Conference leaders in categories including three-point shooting, assist/turnover ratio, scoring, three-pointers made, field goal percentage, and assists.

In an 80-47 victory over George Fox University in December of last year, Monaghan became the 31st player in program history to score 1,000 career points. The Florham Park native hit double figures in 24 games, surpassed 20 points on seven occasions, and scored a career-high 34 points against Rhode Island College in the NCAA Tournament Second Round.

Beyond her statistical performance, Monaghan's excellence was also recognized by her peers and coaches. She earned WBCA Coaches’ All-American, and D3hoops.com All-American honors, while also being named the D3hoops Regional Player of the Year, and the Landmark Conference Player of the Year.

Under Monaghan's leadership, the University of Scranton's Lady Royals team managed a remarkable 28-1 season record, capturing its eighth consecutive Landmark Conference title.

This accomplishment adds to the already rich legacy of the team and shines a light on the exceptional talent of local sports figure, Bridget Monaghan.
