As COVID ran through the United States in early March of 2020 small businesses began to immediately suffer monetary consequences. According to the government agency CDN Advocacy, while small businesses all over the country were affected by the pandemic, none saw quite as big a setback as those small businesses located in the NorthEast. Specifically, the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area has seen the largest decrease in self-employed small business owners since the beginning of the pandemic.
To combat the loss of small businesses in our area, the Fortis Foundation, a charitable arm of the Fortis Agency, in association with the Morris County Chamber of Commerce, is offering $40,000 in grants to a minimum of two small businesses in New Jersey.
To qualify for a grant businesses must:
1. be in existence since March of 2018
2. have a minimum of ten employees
3. be located in NJ, with preference given to those small businesses in Morris County
Small business owners can apply via the Morris County Economic Development Corp., a division of the Morris County Chamber of Commerce. The application asks for the business' tax returns from 2019 and 2020 and prompts business owners to answer a few questions such as how COVID-19 has negatively impacted their small business and how the grant money might help them recover from the impact of COVID-19.
Small business owners can apply for $5k, $10k, $15k, or $20k in grants. The deadline for the application is November 19, 2021, at 5:00 PM.
